What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a distinct approach to healthcare based on the original discoveries and experiences of its American founder Dr Andrew Taylor Still (1828 – 1917).

Dr Taylor Still was the first physician to recognise fully that the relationship between the structure (anatomy) and function (physiology) of the body are interdependent and that this reciprocal relationship is vital to physical and mental well-being of the human body.

Using their hands, osteopaths apply a range of techniques to help reduce pain, increase joint mobility, relieve muscle tension and to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, helping the body’s own healing mechanism. The emphasis is on treating the individual, taking all their circumstances into account, rather than just treating the condition. You may also be provided with advice on lifestyle issues, diet and exercise.

Mark Coleman

I am a fully qualified and registered Osteopath based at the Pro Health Therapy Rooms.  After graduating from the European School of Osteopathy in 2011 I have seen and treated a large variety of patients and continued to learn a great deal.  Alongside treating normal populations, with my background in Gym and Sport Science, I am very confident treating Athletes and sportspersons to a very proficient level.  To coincide with the treatment I often recommend basic rehabilitation to promote a faster and longer term recovery.

When I am not working you can find me in the sea surfing, up a mountain snowboarding or in the woods mountain biking.  Which, of course, I do with great care so as not to injure myself and keep up my great level of care and passion for patient recovery.

I thrive on using the skills and knowledge I have learned to help and advise patients, so that they may return to full health.
