Craniosacral Therapy
What is Craniosacral Therapy
What is CranioSacral Therapy and Somato Emotional Release®
Upledger CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a trauma-informed holistic body therapy. It offers a gentle, supportive pathway to rediscover your sense of well-being and gain a deeper understanding of your health. Based on the ideas that the body is self-healing if the required resources are available, and that Mind, Body, and Soul are inseparable, your treatments will focus on the resources you need for healing.
Somato Emotional Release® (SER) addresses the emotional aspects relating to your symptoms and helps you to understand how your body responds to various emotions.
The founder of CranioSacral Therapy, Dr John E Upledger, DO (1932-2012), seamlessly integrated medical science, psychology, and spirituality in this delicate treatment for the whole body.
CranioSacral Therapy combined with Somato Emotional Release® facilitates the discovery of mind-body connections, which underpin your symptoms, and then helps you to find inner resources needed for moving towards a positive change.
Instead of focusing on controlling your symptoms, this therapy addresses the whole of your being. Symptoms respond to this treatment when we manage to improve your physical, emotional, and energetic resources.
What happens during a treatment session
Clients remain fully clothed and lie comfortably on a treatment table.
Before the treatment, we discuss your health concerns and what happened between treatment sessions.
Each therapy session begins with a hands-on evaluation of tension and restriction patterns that are currently present in your body. During this, we begin tuning into your Inner Wisdom that guides the treatment process.
The therapist supports you with light touch, applies various hand placements, and tension release techniques.
In some sessions, we may also talk about your feelings, some relevant memories, or we explore images that come to your awareness during the treatment.
Clients often experience deep relaxation, release, or shifts in their inner tension and energy balance.
CST is safe for children and adults, also during pregnancy and after childbirth.
Conditions that frequently respond to CST
In my experience, clients frequently seek help from CranioSacral Therapy for a wide range of conditions, including: physical or emotional trauma, PTSD, chronic or persistent pain, headaches and migraines, disturbed sleep or digestion, fatigue, anxiety and depression.
Craniosacral therapy can support your recovery from accidents, head injury, concussion, or after surgery, during and after medical treatment for cancer.
Most of these are related to the functioning of the nervous system and its interactions with other organ systems, like the musculoskeletal system, circulation, digestive system etc.
